FORT ASHBY, W.Va. — Catherine (Kirk) O’Brien, 94, of Fort Ashby, W.Va., formerly of Springfield, W.Va., died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, at The Dawnview Center.
Born Oct. 2, 1918, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Edgar “Pete” Kirk and Ethel (Twigg) Kirk. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, Lloyd E. O’Brien Sr.; five brothers, Walter Kirk, Calvin Kirk, Edgar Kirk Jr., Edward Kirk and Alfred Kirk and two granddaughters, Leanne Carr and Lisa Carr.
Mrs. O’Brien was a member of the Old Furnace Church of the Brethren.
She is survived by her son, Lloyd E. O’Brien Jr. and wife Sandra Kay, of Capon Bridge, W.Va.; her daughter, Carolyn Carr, of Mount Pleasant, Mich.; three sisters, Helen Kasecamp, of Cumberland, Shirley Cutchall, of Williams-port and Norma Johnson, of Jupiter, Fla. and five grandchildren, Eric O’Brien, Sheila O’Brien, Chelsea O’Brien, Daren Carr, and Kelley Carr.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Inc., Route 28, Fort Ashby, on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Ed Weaver and Pastor Dave Sutton officiating.
Interment will be in Fort Ashby Cemetery.
