CUMBERLAND — Jessie Mae “Bunnie” Simmons, 81, of Cumberland, died Monday, Oct. 15, 2012 at the home of her daughter.
Born May 9, 1931, in Johnstown, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Ralph Paul Young and Elizabeth (Shaw) Young. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Simmons, Sept. 6, 1987; and a sister, Blodwyn Taylor.
Bunnie took pride in her career as a wife and mother. She loved to cook and entertain family and friends. She enjoyed a second career as the proprietor of Bunnie’s Tavern. She served home style meals, cold beer, and lots of fun. After Bunnie’s “retirement,” she continued to hostess on weekends.
Bunnie’s favorite vacation spot was her home. She liked to garden and was especially proud of her tomatoes. One of her greatest talents was her embroidery. She spent countless hours creating beautiful linens that are treasured gifts by her family and friends.
Bunnie is survived by two daughters, Deborah S. Kagle, Hagerstown, and Charlene E. Mechem, LaVale; a brother, Ralph “Sonny” Young Jr. and wife Betty, Johnstown; and her grandchildren, Erica Garwood and husband, Gregory and Drew Kagle; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Jessa and Jack Garwood; and is also survived by Pete Mechem and Rick and Barbara Kagle.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012 at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Jim Brooks officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
