LAVALE — Harry C. Edwards Jr., 80, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012 with his family at his side at the Devlin Manor Health Care Center of Cumberland.
Born on July 2, 1931 in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Harry C. Edwards Sr. and Ethel Gabe (Palmer) Edwards.
Mr. Edwards was a veteran serving with the Army in the 101st Airborne during the Korean Conflict. Harry was a member of the Calvary Bible Church in Ellerslie. He retired from Nationwide Insurance Company with 31 years of service. He was a member of the Maryland State Police Alumni, F.O.P. 40, treasurer of the Allegany-Garret Sportsmen’s Association, treasurer of the Tri-State Claims Association, President of the Maryland Fur Trappers District II, member of the AARP, member of the NRA and member of the American Legion Post 13.
Harry was an outdoor person and loved hunting, fishing and trapping.
Harry is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ruth Marie (Smith); sons, Larry Wayne and fiancee Joanie Fisher and Randy Lee and wife, Diane; grandchildren, Jason and Brook Edwards of Chicago, Ill. Also surviving are his little companions Panda and Smokey that were a great joy to him.
Friends will be received at Hafer Chapel of the Hills, 1302 National Hwy., LaVale, on Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be held in the funeral home chapel on Monday, Feb. 13, 2011 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Ken Korns and Pastor Greg Miller officiating.
Interment will follow at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap in Flintstone, with full military honors being accorded by Post 13 Veterans Honor Guard.
