CUMBERLAND — Ruth Evelyn (Corbin) Slough, 92, of Cumberland, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013 at the Golden Living Center.
Born on Sept. 19, 1920 in Cumberland, Ruth was the daughter of the late Robert and Viola Corbin. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband William H. Slough and one daughter, Linda D. Shuck. Also preceding her in death was one brother, Robert Corbin and four sisters, Mary Luck, Virginia George, Lucille True and Viola Athey.
Surviving is one daughter, Joyce L. Metcalf, Cresaptown; two grandchildren, Shannon M. Kesner and husband Brian, and Christa D. Kelly, both of Cumberland; six great-grandchildren, Garrett, Rachael, Sarah, Brooke Kesner and Samantha and Jared Kelly. She is also survived by a sister, Patricia Meeks.
Ruth was formerly employed by the Celanese Corporation. However, she dedicated her life to being a homemaker, loving wife and mother, and found pleasure in caring for her beautiful roses. She was devoted to her family and counted her daughters, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as her greatest accomplishments. Ruth adored her great grandchildren and supported them by attending sporting events, and other activities until her health began to fail. She never smiled brighter than when she was receiving hugs and kisses from the children. Her eyes would light up each time they visited, and they truly brought her countless moments of joy. Ruth was a blessing to her family and friends and will be sadly missed.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., Cresaptown (www.scarpellifh.com) on Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013 from 5 to 6 p.m.
A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 6 p.m. with Deacon Dave Conley officiating.
The interment will be held in Sunset Memorial Park.
