CUMBERLAND — William Richard Hare Sr., 67, of Cumberland, passed away on Monday, Jan. 28, 2013 at home after a long illness.
Born Dec. 9, 1945 in Cumberland, he was the son of the late James and Opal (Wolford) Hare. He was preceded in death by four brothers John Hare, James Hare, Martin Hare, Eddie R. Hare; two sisters, Frances McCarthy and baby girl Hare; and one grandson, Tyrelle York.
Mr. Hare was a retired United States Army veteran after 23 years of service. He was employed at the Western Maryland Health System in the maintenance department. William was Methodist by faith, and a member of the Goodfellowship Club. He enjoyed watching wrestling and playing bingo with his wife.
Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Evelyn Hare; one daughter, Janice Hare of Cumberland; three sons, William Richard Hare Jr. and fiancé Emily Rose of Cumberland, Jeffrey Scott Hare and wife Karen of Cumberland, Brian Keith Hare and fiancé Danielle Landis of Ft. Ashby, W.Va.; four sisters, Deloris Burley and husband Steve of Ellerslie, Cindy Steinmetz and husband Art of Cumberland, Mary V. Raines of Cumberland, Shirley Shipway of Strusburg, Va.; four brothers, Stanley Hare of Smithsburg, Donald Hare of El Paso, Texas, Ronald Keith Hare and wife Donna of Cumberland, and Ricky A. Hare of Charleston, W.Va.; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home P.A. (www.scarpellifh.com) 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Friday from noon until 1 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 1 p.m. with Pastor Jay Fretz officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
Military honors will be accorded by the Post 13 Veterans Honor Guard.
