CUMBERLAND — Harry “Haddie” Armand Northcraft, 92, of Cumberland, passed away Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013 at his home.
Born June 5, 1920 in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Harry P. Northcraft and Olive I. (Sturtz) Northcraft. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Mae G. Northcraft, Dec. 6, 1995; and a sister, Dorothy Northcraft.
A United States Air Force Veteran during World War II, Harry was the first convoy to leave San Francisco after Pearl Harbor headed to Australia, ten miles from Java when it fell to the Japanese then to India (New Delhi) then to Burma with the “SM Dragons” as air controller for the “Burma Hump.” He retired from the Celanese Fibers Corporation of America. Harry was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, the Ali Ghan Shrine Club, East Gate Lodge 216 A.F. &A.M., the Scottish Rite Cumberland Chapter, and the Ridgeley Senior Center.
Harry is survived by a sister, Charlotte Porter and husband Fred, Shepherdstown, W.Va.; three nieces, Pam Niziolek and husband John, Walkersville, Cindy Jones and husband Bob, Frederick, and Amy Lagon and husband Brian, Louisa, Va.; a nephew, Mark Northcraft and wife Linda, Charleston, S.C.; a close and special childhood friend, Mary Nave, Fort Ashby, W.Va.; as well as six great-nieces and great-nephews.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. The Masonic Lodge will conduct a service at 7:30 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Jack George officiating.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
