CUMBERLAND — June Elizabeth (Beery) Ullery, 97, of Cumberland, died on Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at Lion’s Center for Rehab and Extended Care with her family beside her.
June was born on June 12, 1915, in Levels, W.Va., to John Ervin Blair Beery and wife Clara Belle Haines. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Blair Elwood Ullery, on March 13, 1987; her parents, sister and her husband, Ruth Easter (Beery) and Leroy Dixon; brothers and their wives, Russell and Ann (Halterman) Beery and Edna (Collins) Beery, Jennings Walker and Helen (Wagoner) Beery; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Odessa (Ullery) and Earl Ashenfelter, Ina (Ullery) and Raymond “Bud” Parker, Mae Elizabeth “Tina” (Ullery) and Glenn Campbell, Eugene and Mary (Allen) Ullery, Whitey Eror and Eugene Abe. June is the last surviving member of her immediate family.
June was a graduate of Pennsylvania Avenue High School, class of 1933, and Catherman’s Business School. She worked at Sears on Baltimore Street in the mid-1930’s and later worked at the Celanese where Blair worked. She and Blair married July 28, 1940. During and after raising their four daughters, June worked at Town and Country, Rosenbaum’s, Allegany County Courthouse, Memorial Hospital, Hillcrest and Sunset Memorial Parks. She was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Church. She was a member of the Monday senior bowling league at White Oaks until the age of 92 when she decided she was too old. She was a past member of the Democratic Women’s Club and Christian Women’s Group.
June is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Karen and Norman Beavers, of Tyler, Texas, Jill Leyh, of Cumberland, Debra and Ed Goss, of Fort Ashby, W.Va. and Deann and Bill Hudson, of LaVale. She leaves behind four grandchildren, Steven Leyh and Jonathan Leyh, both of Cumberland and Betsy Goss Leavitt and Matthew Goss, both of Fort Ashby, W.Va.; three great-grandchildren, Alyssa Leavitt, of Fort Ashby W.Va., Layla Goss, of Short Gap, W.Va., and Breyden Alt of LaVale; her brother-in-law and his wife, Wallace and Betty Ullery; sisters-in-law, Helen Ruth Eror, all of Cumberland and Kathryn (Katie) Abe, of Wiley Ford, W.Va.; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive her.
Family and friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave. (www.ScarpelliFH.com) on Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, from 2 to 6 p.m.
A graveside service will be conducted at Sunset Memorial Park on Thursday at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Tormod Svensson.
