CUMBERLAND — Alvirda Virginia “Sam” Evans, 79, of Cumberland, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.
Born on March 9, 1933, in West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Thurman Bowen and Lillie (McBride) Bowen. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Marvin Harold Samples.
Sam was a member of the Melvin United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Fort Hill Band Parents and the Jean Rowland Circle. Mrs. Evans was a homemaker and loved playing cards, reading, and above all spending time with her family. She will be sadly missed.
Surviving are her husband Evan Evans, of Cumberland; her daughters Mitzi Morgan and husband James, of LaVale and Willie Green and husband Steven, of Cumberland; her son, Tom Samples and wife Belinda, of Falling Waters, W.Va.; step-daughters Debbie Evans, of Cumberland and Sharon Evans, of Milton, Del.; two sisters, Wavley White and Vanis Blizzard, both of Cumberland; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A. (www.scarpellifh.com) 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, on Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home on Monday at 1 p.m. with Pastor Dan Taylor officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park
Pallbearers will be Wesley Samples, Wade Samples, Adam Morgan, Patrick Pennel, William See, Kenny Blizzard and Robert Weimer.
