CUMBERLAND — William Joseph “Bill” Schoenadel, 88, of Little Orleans, went to be with our Lord on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.
Born Feb. 8, 1924, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Joseph and Rosa (O’Baker) Schoenadel. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel L. (Jewell) Schoenadel, on April 14, 2001; a son, Stephen S. Schoenadel and twelve brothers and sisters.
Mr. Schoenadel was the owner and operator of Orleans Grocery/Bill’s Place in Little Orleans. He was a member of Saint Peter’s Catholic Church, Hancock and Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church, Little Orleans and was a 1942 graduate of Allegany High School. Bill was previously employed by the Cumberland Times-News and the Swift Company. He established and ran Schoenadel’s Printing and enjoyed fishing and socializing with his friends at his business.
He is survived by two daughters, Bonnie Rose Howdershell and husband Randolph, of Little Orleans and Paula J. Hill and husband Chet, of Cresaptown and two sons, John M. “Jack” Schoenadel and wife Ann, of Little Orleans and Kevin J. Schoenadel and wife Kelle, of Berkeley Springs, W.Va. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren, Shane and Erin Schoenadel, Jeffrey Blank, Holly Schoenadel, Dee and Brian Fink, Krysten Gossard, Keshia and Kelsey Schoenadel, Matthew and Dustin Hill, as well as eleven great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, Cresaptown, (www.scarpellifh.com) on Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake service will be held at the funeral home at 8:30 p.m. with the Rev. John J. Lombardi officiating.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted in Our Lady of the Mountains Parish, SS Peter and Paul Shrine, on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. John J. Lombardi as celebrant.
Interment will be in SS Peter and Paul Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Jeff Blank, Shane Schoenadel, Matthew Hill, Dustin Hill, Dee Fink and Brian Fink.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Western Maryland Health System Home Hospice, 1050 Industrial Blvd., Cumberland, MD 21502.
