CHAPIN, S.C. — Todd William Powell, 41, formerly of Ridgeley, W.Va., and residing in Chapin, passed away Monday, Jan. 23, 2012, at his home.
Born Jan. 10, 1971, in Cumberland, Todd was the son of the Denny and Georgie (Long) Powell, Ridgeley. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Walter “Ben” and Helen Powell; his maternal grandfather, Sylvester “Butch” Long; and an uncle, Bennie Powell.
Todd was a 1989 graduate of Frankfort High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served for eight years aboard the nuclear submarine, the USS Daniel Boone. Todd was an avid fisherman and enjoyed camping. He was a longstanding member of the billiard team at Ray’s Tavern in Ballentine, S.C. Todd loved to cook and share his culinary skills with his family and friends and was considered to be a grill master. Todd was a very caring and loving person. He was always ready to help out family and friends and could light up a room with his smile. Todd was a loyal Washington Redskins fan and never wavered in his support whether they were losing or winning. Todd was employed in the construction business and was well-known for his concrete stamping and tiling skills.
Besides his parents, Todd is survived by his girlfriend, Patty Oliverio and her children, Joseph, Greg, and Mary, all of Chapin; his maternal grandmother, Lavada “Midge” Long, Wiley Ford, W.Va.; his uncles, Randy Powell and wife, Bonnie, Aspers, Pa., Paul Powell and wife, Ann, Doug Powell and wife, Tammy, Ridgeley; Henry Long and wife, Sue, Wauseon, Ohio; his aunts, Shelby Morgart; Virginia Clark and husband, Frank, all of Ridgeley, and Carol Powell, Fort Ashby, W.Va. Todd is also survived by many cousins. Todd and his cousin, Carrie, were like brother and sister. Todd also leaves behind his canine companions, Charlie and Khloe; as well as his best friend, Brian Powers, Cumberland.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012 from 2 to 4 p.m.
A memorial service will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012 at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Ken Hamilton officiating.
