ROMNEY, W.Va. — Seymour Frederick Hershey, 86, of Romney, passed away on Friday, Dec. 7, 2012 at Hampshire Memorial Hospital.
Born on Jan. 8, 1926 in Three Churches, W.Va., he was the son of the late Arthur William Hershey and Madge Winifred (Woodroff) Hershey.
He worked as a maintenance worker for 31 years at WV School for the Deaf and Blind. He was an army veteran serving in the 273 infantry battalion during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Romney Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years Marie (Reed) Hershey on July 24, 2012; also preceded by four brothers, Francis Ray, John Lovett, Harold William, Robert Dailey Hershey; an infant sister; a great-granddaughter, Rylie Grace Daugherty; and a son-in-law, Larry Hott
Surviving is three daughters, Janet M. Hott of Romney, Joyce E. Swimley and husband Steve of Winchester, Va., Donna J. Richman and husband Terry of Augusta, W.Va.; a brother, Walter Thomas Hershey of Richmond, Va.; two sisters, Sarah Louise McDonald of Burlington, W.Va., McVeigh Josephine Harvey of Indian Mound, Tenn.; eight grandchildren, Jessica Haines and husband Ted, Steve Hyson and wife Melissa, Michael Hott and wife Sheila, Jeremy Richman and wife Danette, Melissa Kifer and husband Brian, Brandie Daugherty, Brooke Daugherty and husband Brad, Laura Womack and husband Aaron; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012 at 11 a.m. in McKee Funeral Home Chapel, 115 E. Birch Lane, Romney, with Pastor Dick Bartrug officiating.
Interment will follow in Branch Mt. Methodist Cemetery, Three Churches.
Pallbearers will be Michael Hott, Steve Hyson, Terry Richman, Jeremy Richman, Donald Raigner and Steve Swimley.
The family will receive friends on Monday evening 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
All arrangements are being handled by McKee Funeral Home, Romney.
