KEYSER, W.Va. — Helen M. Hanlin, 85, of Florida Avenue, Keyser, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012 at the Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser.
Born on May 29, 1927 at Keyser, she was a daughter of the late Bryant and Louise (Bell) Rice. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond E. Hanlin on Jan. 27, 1991; a grandson, Kyle Rosier; a brother, Fred Rice; and a sister, Zella Wallace.
Mrs. Hanlin was formerly employed as seamstress at the both the Keyser Woolen Mill and the Keyser Garment Factory, but was first and foremost a loving and accomplished homemaker. She enjoyed taking care of her family and was very proud of making her home a warm comforting place for her family and friends. She also was proud of being able to complete her high school studies by receiving her GED in 1977, the same year that her son, Jeff graduated. After receiving her GED, she went on to receive her assistant nursing certificate through the Mineral County Vo-Tech Center.
Mrs. Hanlin was a member of the Sunnyside Church of the Brethren, New Creek, W.Va., and was a former member of the Cabin Run CEOS (Homemakers) She was an avid bowler and enjoyed flower gardening.
Surviving are her son, Jeffrey R. Hanlin and wife Kim of Antioch, W.Va.; her "special daughter", Lori Harrison of Antioch; one sister, Doris Grove of Winchester, Va.; and two grandchildren, Katarina and Khrystian Rosier
Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Monday, Dec. 3, 2012 at 2 p.m.
Interment will be in the Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Mrs. Hanlin's four wonderful caregivers, Tammy, Shirley, Joyce and Brenda for the compassionate care over the last several years.
