CUMBERLAND — Betty Lee Ashby, 87, of Cumberland, passed away Monday, Jan. 30, 2012, at the Good Samaritan Hospice House in Wexford, Pa.
Born Jan. 11, 1925, in Cumberland, Mrs. Ashby was the daughter of the late James Darr and Thelma Hollingsworth. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Samuel R. Ashby; a son, Alan Richard Ashby; and a grandson, James T. Paige III.
Betty was previously employed at the Celanese Fibers Corporation of America and several stores in the downtown area. She volunteered for Sacred Heart Hospital for over 20 years. Betty was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church; the WMHS Ladies Auxiliary; the Fort Myers Post 153 American Legion; Faith Chapter 31 the Order of the Eastern Star, Keyser, W.Va.; and the Ladies Auxiliary of the V.F.W.
Betty is survived by her daughters, Carol L. Paige, of Hernando, Fla., and Pamela L. Bullie and husband Jay, of Freedom, Pa.; and her son, Terry A. Ashby, of Cumberland. She is also survived by a sister, Maxine Grant, of Compton, Calif.; her grandchildren, Alan B. Paige, Kevin L. Paige, Terry A. Ashby Jr., Jay C. Bullie, Ashley Bullie-Koch, Jordan Ashby, Tony Ashby, Erin Ashby, and Wyatt Ashby; 17 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Friday, Feb. 3, 2012, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake Service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. with Father Bernard Finerty, O.F.M. Cap., officiating.
A Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated in SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church on Saturday, Feb. 4, 2012, at 10 a.m. with Father Bernard Finerty, O.F.M. Cap., as celebrant.
Interment will be in SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery.
