CUMBERLAND — Robert Jayferry Hartman, 90, of Cumberland, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013, at his home after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born Jan. 2, 1923, in Keyser, W.Va., Mr. Hartman was the son of the late William Owen Hartman and Bessie (Oglesbee) Hartman-Kenney.
A United States Army veteran of World War II, Jay retired from CSX Railroad.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joan (Wilfong) Hartman; his sons, Robert D. Hartman and wife Cindy, of Dover, Del. and Daniel M. Hartman and wife Julie, of Cumberland and his daughter, Billie J. Hanft and husband Kenneth, of Cumberland. Jay is also survived by his sister, Betty Phillips, of Hagerstown; his half-sisters, Virginia Nazelrod, of Cumberland, Rita Crites, of Cumberland and Frances Hughes, of Delaware; his grandchildren, Benjamin Hartman, Julie Virola, Kristina Ray and Matthew Hanft; as well as seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Ray McCoy officiating.
Interment will be in Zion Memorial Park.
Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Post 13 Veterans Honor Guard.
