LAVALE — Margaret Orpah (Holsinger) Haus, 91, of LaVale, formerly of Mount Savage, passed away on Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, at Allegany Health Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born Dec. 26, 1921, in Mount Savage, Mrs. Haus was the daughter of the late Roy William Holsinger and Maude Selina (Kirby) Holsinger. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Louis E. Haus, Aug. 11, 1994, and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
A homemaker, Mrs. Haus directed the Mount Savage United Methodist Choir for 30 years. In her earlier years, she taught the piano/organ and wrote/directed minstrels and musicals. In her later years, she played the organ and piano for the Zion and Centenary Churches in Cumberland, and the Westernport United Methodist Church. While President of the Mount Savage Homemakers Club, Margaret was recognized by the Woman's Home Companion Magazine in 1954 for distinguished community service. Because of this, she and a club member were interviewed on WTBO radio.
Mrs. Haus is survived by a sister-in-law, Dorothy “Dot” Miller, Altoona, Pa.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013 from 2 to 4 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013 at 11 a.m. with the Rev. George Harpold and the Rev. Jack George officiating. The family will also receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be at the Maryland State Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the church of your choice.
