CUMBERLAND — Renice Delmar Pollock, 85, of Cumberland, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, at Devlin Manor Nursing Center.
He was born on April 3, 1927, to the late Joseph W.H. and Clara (Furlow) Pollock. He is also preceded in death by his sister, Wilma Ginevan.
Mr. Pollock was a graduate of the class of 1945, Fort Hill High School; a veteran of the U.S. Army; a member of Henry Hart Post 1411 VFW; Post 13 American Legion and the Cumberland Historic Cemetery Organization. He was a life member of Davis Memorial Church; a member of the N.R.A.; and on the Board of Directors of Southern States Co-Op where he received numerous awards. He loved attending the University of Maryland Football games. He also loved to dance, ice skate, and do imitations. He loved animals, especially his dog “Missy.” A favorite pastime of Mr. Pollock was to play his harmonica.
Renice is survived by his sister, Doris Bowers, of Prince Frederick; five nieces Cheryl August and significant other Roger duBois Lore, of Landenberg, Pa., Barbara Campbell and husband E. Scott, of Leonardtown, Sharon Bowers, of Port Republic, Sandra Bowers, Port Republic and Julie Cox and husband Nick, Wilmington, Del; two nephews, Warren Ginevan and wife Donna, of New Castle, Del. and Wayne Ginevan and wife Marissa, of Newark. Del. and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Also surviving are special friends Harold Twigg, Med Heylmun and Dale Durbin.
Friends will be received on Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, from noon to 1 p.m. at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., (www.scarpellifh.com).
A funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Robert Wellman officiating.
Interment will be in the Historic Pollock Cemetery, North Branch, Cumberland.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Allegany County Animal Shelter.
Military honors will be accorded at the grave by the combined local military honor guard.
The family wishes to thank the Devlin Manor Nursing Center for their compassionate care and kindness to Mr. Pollock.
