KEYSER, W.Va. — Lucille Marie "Red" Cathell, 86, of Saint Cloud St., Keyser, W.Va., died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013 at the Hampshire Center in Romney, W.Va.
Born on July 27, 1926 at Rowlesburg, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Arthur Howard "Buck" and Fern (Shaffer) Millslagle. She also was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Gerald L. "Pete" Cathell on July 3, 2011 and by a sister, Mary Goff.
Mrs. Cathell was a 1945 graduate of Rowlesburg High School and was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Keyser. She was a homemaker and enjoyed crocheting and needlework, so much so that she made everyone in the family their own personal afghan. She was a very family oriented person and in her later years, especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
Surviving are one son, Gerald L. "Jerry" Cathell, Jr. and wife Rhonda of Burlington, W.Va.; one daughter, Linda S. Shirley and husband Dennis of Derwood; one sister, Phyllis Wilson of Beaver, Pa.; three grandchildren, Chrissi Baker and husband Roy, Candi Pinocci Johnson and husband Dave and Valerie Ravenscroft and husband Matt; four great-grandchildren, Morgan and Madison Baker, Cadence Ravenscroft and one "on the way;" two step grandchildren, Heather Nanda and husband Sid and Crystal Garcia and three step great-grandchildren, Aidan, Kailyn and Chandler.
Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013 at 11 a.m. with Roy Baker officiating.
Interment will be in the Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.
The family requests that memorial contributions be directed to either the Hampshire Center Resident's Council, HC 63, Box 2580, Romney, WV 26757 or to the Rowlesburg Volunteer Ambulance Service, P.O. Box 428, Rowlesburg, WV 26425.
