CUMBERLAND — William “Bill” Walter Hoover, 96, of Cumberland, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, at the Country House.
Born May 31, 1916, in Cumberland, Mr. Hoover was the son of the late Jesse Alfred Hoover and Jennie Esther (Lowry) Hoover. He was also preceded in death by two wives, Martha (Griffey) Hoover and Audrey (Ault) Hoover; a sister, Elizabeth A. Hoover; a brother, James A. Hoover; and was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
A United States Army Signal Corps veteran of World War II, Bill retired from the First Federal Savings and Loan Company. He was a life-member of the Centre Street United Methodist Church. Bill was a drummer with the “Aristocrats” and various bands in the area.
Bill is survived by his daughters, Sandra Grahame, Elkins, W.Va. and Lindsay Drozek and husband, Julius, Cumming, Ga.; his grandchildren, Joelle Kenney and husband, Bruce, Jenna Gongola and husband, Steven, all of Elkins, W.Va., Aron Cody and wife, Jane, Caruthersville, Mo., Megan Hunt and husband, Norm, Sugar Hill, Ga. and Emily Hendrix and husband, Joseph, Acworth, Ga.; as well as 10 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Centre Street United Methodist Church, 217 North Centre St., Cumberland, on Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012 from 1 to 2 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Ann Atkins officiating.
Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Centre Street United Methodist Church, 217 North Centre St., Cumberland, MD 21502.
