CUMBERLAND — Helen Virginia McKinley, 74, of Cumberland, died Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012 at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.
Born in Cumberland on June 23, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Leroy Crawford and Laura (Swick) Crawford. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernard W. “Sonny” McKinley.
Helen attended Fort Hill High School. She was a homemaker who in later life became a sitter.
She is survived by a daughter, Pamela A. McKinley Ringer and Richard Sweitzer, State Line, Pa.; two sons, George V. “Mac” McKinley and Somers W. McKinley, both of Cumberland; seven grandchildren, Heather A. Gable and husband Chad, Cumberland, Erin Sexton and husband David, Mineral, Va., Alexandra Dixon and husband Andrew, Louisiana, Va., Christopher McKinley, Cumberland, Crystal Hobbs and husband Robert, Cumberland, Sarah McKinley, Hagerstown, and Somers McKinley and wife Tabitha; and nine great-grandchildren.
It was Helen’s request to be cremated. She did not want a visitation or funeral service.
Those who would like to honor her memory may do so by making contributions to The South Cumberland Business and Civic Association.
