CUMBERLAND — Anna LaVerne Wharton, 89, of Cumberland, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012, at the Allegany Health Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born July 17, 1922 in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Nora (Rice) Wharton. She was also preceded in death by brothers, Melvin Wharton, Charles Wharton, Raymond Wharton, Vernon Wharton; sisters, Ada L. Koontz, Regina P. Markle, Thelma M. Wharton; and one great-nephew, Gary A. Morgan II.
Anna retired from Memorial Hospital as a Nursing Assistant in Intensive Care Unit. She was a member of First Assembly of God. Anna was a school teacher and superintendent for many years. Anna was very active in the church. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
Surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, (www.scarpellifh.com) on Monday from 10 to 11 a.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Doug Willoughby officiating.
Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
