CUMBERLAND — Joseph Clifford “Ike” Kenney, 89, of Cumberland, died Monday, Nov. 19, 2012 at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.
Born Nov. 14, 1923, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Harry Russell “Irish” Kenney and Edith Nellie (Wiegand) Kenney. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Jane (Reynard) Kenney and a son-in-law, Robert C. Pinder.
Ike was a graduate of Fort Hill High School. He attended Georgetown University and Frostburg State College.
Mr. Kenney was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, where he earned three Bronze Stars.
Ike owned and operated the Cumberland Mattress Factory, a business that had been started by his grandfather.
He was Lutheran by faith.
Ike was a life member of the Fort Ashby Post 6667, V.F.W. and also belonged to William E. Shuck Jr., Post 136, American Legion, Ridgeley, W.Va.
He enjoyed hunting and playing cards.
Survivors include his son, Clifford Craig Kenney, and wife Debbie, of Ridgeley, and his children, Jade, Brie and Kai; his daughter, Carolyn Pinder, of Winter Haven, Fla., and her son, Christopher and his wife Laura and three great-grandchildren, Michael, Joey and Emily. His sister, Donna Keel Barnett, lives in Okmulgee, Okla. and he has two nephews, Earl W. Keel and Joseph K. Keel, in Florida. Also surviving is his special companion, Evalee Stangle and Camden, whom he helped raise.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A committal service will be conducted in the Chapel at the Maryland State Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap on Monday at 1 p.m.
Military honors will be accorded by Post 13 Veterans Honor Guard.
