CUMBERLAND — Harry William Merkel, Jr., 71, of Cumberland, died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013 at home.
Born Dec. 6, 1941 in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Harry William Merkel, Sr. and Betty Merkel.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Tomla Ann Merkel.
Mr. Merkel had worked at Allegany College of Maryland, where he was the coordinator for the Student Lounge. He had also worked for many years at the White Oaks Lanes.
He is survived by his son, Brian Merkel, Cumberland; his granddaughter, Devin Merkel; three sisters, Carol Dawson, Carpendale, W.Va., Kay LaBonte, Green Spring, W.Va., and Barbara Corbin, Ellerslie; and two brothers, Darrell Merkel, Cayce, S.C., and Tom Merkel, Cumberland.
Family and friends will be received at the Ellerslie Fire Hall on Friday, Feb. 8, 2013 from 3 to 7 p.m.
