MOUNT SAVAGE — Howard Lorenzo Peterson, 83, of Mount Savage, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.
Born May 16, 1929, in Blooming Prairie, Minn., to the late Charley J. and Mary (Dutton) Peterson. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Anne Peterson and three brothers, Gerald, Charles and Stewart Peterson.
Mr. Peterson retired from The Hercules Corporation as an Aerospace Engineer and held employment with the Cumberland Times News newspaper. He wrote the column titled “Bowling with Pete” and also published a book titled “Rocket Science of Bowling.” Howard was a certified Olympic Bowling Coach, but amongst his passion for bowling, he also loved fishing and most of all his family.
Surviving are his wife of 28 years, Mary Kaye Peterson; six children, Linda Broadwater and husband Glenn, Gayle Raybould and husband Clarence, Trish Harrison and husband Jim, Mike Minick and wife Evelyn, Maggie Arriola and husband Richard and Debbie Walch and husband Chris; 20 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; brother, Merle Peterson; sister, Shirley Kubat and numerous nieces and nephews.
Howard was cremated in accordance with his wishes.
Funeral service will be held at the Rocky Gap State Veterans Cemetery, on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2013, at 1 p.m. with Pastor Brent Biller officiating.
Military honors will be accorded by American Legion Farrady Post 24 Honor Guard.
