ROMNEY, W.Va. — Gary Allen Hedrick, 68, of Romney, W.Va. and formerly of Petersburg, W.Va., died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at his home.
He was born Jan. 7, 1945, in Petersburg, W.Va. and was a son of the late Russell V. Hedrick and Minnie Catherine (Harman) Hedrick. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Jane (Hedrick) Brill, in 2012.
Mr. Hedrick was an Eagle Scout; graduated from Petersburg High School in 1962 and was a veteran of the United States Navy. He received a Bachelor's Degree in Electronics Engineering from WVU, a MS in Education from UAB and held Associate Degrees in Parapsychology and Criminal Justice.
He retired from the Federal Government after 25 years service. In his retirement, Mr. Hedrick was a land surveyor, mediator, electrician, mechanic, projectionist, telephone repairman, carpenter, landlord, mobile home park manager, VFW quartermaster and also taught computers, math and social studies for 5 years at the West Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind in Romney, W.Va.
Surviving is one son, Eric T. Hedrick and wife Lelia, of Harrisonburg, Va.; one brother, Russell V. Hedrick Jr., of Petersburg, W.Va.; one sister, Judith Ann Harman and husband Doug, of Morgantown, W.Va. and two grandchildren, John Edwin A. Hedrick and Julie Hedrick.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, in the Main Street United Methodist Church in Petersburg at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Carl VanStavern officiating. Family will receive friends following the memorial service in the church fellowship hall.
Memorial donations in memory of Gary A Hedrick may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
Funeral arrangement are under the direction of the Schaeffer Funeral Home in Petersburg, W.Va.
