CUMBERLAND — Reginald Galen Bridges Sr., 77, of Cumberland, passed away on Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at his residence with his family by his side.
Born Sept. 14, 1935 in Mount Savage, he was the son of the late Robert B. Bridges and Thelma (Atkinson) Beal. He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert B. Bridges Jr.; two sisters, Wanda Thompson and Shirley Bridges; and a grandson, Bradley A. Bridges; and was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
A United States Army veteran during Korean War and also in Triest, Italy, Galen was a Sgt 1st Class and was awarded Soldier of the Year. He retired from Schmidt Baking Company with 18 years of service and was previously employed with PPG Industries, the Cumberland Fire Department and also Bayliner. He formerly attended Bedford Road Baptist Church and was a man of strong Christian Faith and was a devoted and loving family man.
Galen is survived by his wife of 52 years, Nancy A. Bridges, Cumberland; a son, Reginald G. Bridges Jr. and wife Lena, Cumberland; two daughters, Debra D. Zollner and husband Kevin, Cumberland, and Kris Flick and husband Ken, Somerset, Pa.; his grandchildren, Erik Bridges, Kevin Zollner, Christine Zollner, Lisa Lucas, Laura Tingler, Shane and Chad Flick; and his great-grandchildren, Aaliyah, Mason, McKenzie, Jolene, and Colton; and a step-brother, George “Mo” Beal, Cumberland.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Monday, Jan. 14, 2013 from 5 to 7 p.m.
A memorial service will be conducted at the funeral home on Monday, Jan. 14, 2013 at 7 p.m. with Pastor Larry Green officiating.
The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the Home Hospice employees for their care and concern.
