CHESTER A. TURNER [Short Gap, W.Va.]

 

SHORT GAP, W.Va. —  Chester A. Turner, 91, of Short Gap, W.Va., went to be with the Lord on Saturday, Jan. 14, 2012, at the Golden Living Center.
Born May 10, 1920, in London, Ky., he was the son of the late Harry H and Hayle (Howard) Turner. He was also preceded in death by one son, Barry Charles Turner; one brother, Harry Russel Turner; one sister Virginia Rowe; and one sister-in-law Donna King.  
Chester was an electrician foreman out of Local 26 for forty years. He graduated from Big Stone Gap High School in Virginia where he played in the band. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge in Virginia, and a member of the Short Gap United Methodist Church.  
Surviving are his wife of 39 years, Lenora “Jenny” (Um-stot) Turner; one daughter, Rebecca McPherson and husband Robert, of Leeds, Ala.; one son, Chester Turner Jr., of Denton; five grandchildren, Denna Morgan and husband Keith, Jerrianne McPherson, Susan McPherson, Samantha Hall, and Andrew Turner; three great-grandchildren, Robert, Michelle, and Kathryn Morgan; brothers-in-law Gary Umstot and wife Pam, and Roger Umstot and wife Wanda; sisters-in-law Sharon Pyles and husband Dale, and Wanda Malone; and several nieces and nephews.  
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home P.A. Cresaptown on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Martha Ognibene officiating.
Interment will be in Fort Ashby Cemetery.
