GREEN SPRING, W.Va. — Magdalene “Peg” Lorene Straw, 90, of Green Spring, went home to be with her Lord, Jesus Christ on Sept. 7, 2010 at the Dawn View Center, Fort Ashby, W.Va.
She was born on March 5, 1920 in Slanesville, W.Va., daughter of the late Paul Smith and Ruth Florence (Stotler) Bradfield.
Mrs. Straw was preceded in death by her husband, Cletus M. Straw, Oct. 6, 1990; one son, Glenn C. Straw; one daughter, Karen DeLeonardis; two brothers, Richard L. and Robert W. Bradfield; and one granddaughter, Kristin
Mrs. Straw retired from the Hampshire County Board of Education after serving several years as a cook at the Springfield Elementary School. She was a member of the Springfield United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, and Chairperson of the Administrative Board. Mrs. Straw taught Sunday School for 55 years.
Mrs. Straw is survived by two sons, Dennis K. Straw and wife, Janice, Coco, Fla. and Victor C. Straw and wife, Katherine, Viroqua, Wis.; one daughter, Teresa S. Simons and husband, Rodger, Fort Ashby, W.Va.; one son-in-law, Anthony DeLeonardis, San Diego, Calif.; three brothers, Paul Bradfield and wife, Frances, Hagerstown, Charles T. Bradfield and wife, Madge, Patterson Creek, W.Va. and Wayne E. Bradfield and wife, Rita, Paw Paw, W.Va.; two sisters, Helen Shambaugh, Slanesville and V. Dale Bradfield, Augusta, W.Va.; one sister-in-law, Annabelle Bradfield, Patterson Creek; a very special friend, Norma Shanholtzer, Springfield, W.Va.; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, W.Va., on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
The funeral will be Friday, Sept. 10, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Springfield United Methodist Church, Springfield, with Kenneth D. Caplinger, Pastor officiating. The body will be taken to the church at 10 a.m.
Interment will be at Salem Cemetery, Slanesville.
Memorials may be made to the Springfield United Methodist Church, Springfield, WV 26763.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Shaffer Funeral Home, Inc., Romney.
