ROMNEY, W.Va. — William “Bill” Hiett Wolford Jr., 69, of Romney, died Friday, Sept. 3, 2010 at his residence, having bravely fought his battle with cancer.
Bill was born on July 31, 1941 in Romney, son of the late William Hiett and Anna Margaret (Heavner) Wolford Sr. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Treni Jo Wolford; and one sister, Linda Murphy.
Bill graduated from Romney High School, class of 1958. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1959-1963. Bill moved to the Boston area where he owned and operated Seal Coating, Inc. until his retirement in 1989. He was initiated into the Old Colony Masonic Lodge, A.F. & A.M., Hingham, Mass. in 1980. Upon his return to Romney, he was a member of the LOOM 1371 and served as governor from 1990-1998. Bill was an avid hunter, fisherman, and cook. He loved music and played guitar. Bill was an excellent husband, father, and grandfather thoroughly enjoying all of his family.
Bill is survived by his wife of 28 years, Robyn See Wolford; two sons, William H. Wolford III, Boston, Mass. and Eric Dersen, Ft. Ashby, W.Va.; three daughters, Annette M. Wolford, Cumberland, Desiree Fritsch, Romney, Lacey N. Wolford, Romney; two step-daughters, Apryl and Shannon Dawson, Romney; two brothers, Robert Wolford, Winchester, Va. and Edward Wolford, Westminster; two sisters, Patty Hott, Augusta, W.Va. and Mary Ellen Carr, Romney; 11 grandchildren, including one very special granddaughter, Trenadi; and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, on Wednesday from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m.
The funeral will be Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010 at 11 a.m. at the Shaffer Funeral Home, Romney, with Pastor Don Kesner officiating.
Interment will be in Ebenezer Cemetery, Romney.
Military graveside rites will be accorded by the veterans’ organizations of Hampshire County.
Memorials may be made to the Hospice of the Panhandle, Inc. 122 Waverly Court, Martinsburg, WV 25403.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Shaffer Funeral Home, Inc., Romney.
