SHARPSBURG — Leo Basil Williams, 74, of Sharpsburg, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012, at his home.
Born Dec. 2, 1937, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Basil J. Williams and Grace P. (Alderton) Williams.
Mr. Williams worked as a truck driver for Halls Transit of Cumberland and later for the Washington County Service Authority. He served his country in the U.S. Army with the 34th Armored Division at Fort Knox, Ky. and his community as the former Fire Chief in Corriganville. Mr. Williams was an outdoorsman and enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing; also he was a lifetime member of the Kennells Mill Outdoor Club. He also enjoyed playing softball and coached little league in Ellerslie. His family will fondly remember his love of western movies.
Surviving are his wife, Janet Williams; one daughter, Janet Lee Scadden, of Mount Savage; two sons, Roger A. Williams and wife Stacey, of Ellerslie and Shannon and wife Rhonda, of Cresaptown; three brothers, Robert P. Williams, James J. Williams, and Golden E. Williams; three grandchildren, Meghan Bradford, Jerod T. Williams and Jessica R. Scadden; one great-grandchild, Madisyn Miller and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave. (www.scar-pellifh.com) on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home Saturday at 11 a.m. with Minister Leo Lavin officiating.
Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
Military honors will be accorded by the Post 13 Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Maryland, 10626 York Road, Suite A, Cockeysville, MD 21030; to aide his great-granddaughter, who is suffering from the disease.
