SHORT GAP, W.Va. — Catherine Amelia “Gran” Long, 81, of Short Gap, W.Va., passed away at Golden Living Rehabilitation Center in Cumberland, on Monday, Oct. 29, 2012.
Born April 21, 1931, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late James Wilford Andrews and Catherine Amelia and Elmer Sturtz. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Edgell S. Long; her brothers, Don R. Andrews and infant brother Scott Andrews and one grandson, Christopher A. Peretti.
Catherine was a graduate of Allegany High School class of 1949. She was employed by G.C. Murphy’s in Cumberland, H&R Block, Knotts Construction, and Knobley Mountain Hauling. After her daughters were born, she was a dedicated mother and homemaker. She loved cross-stitching, crossword puzzles, playing solitaire, and watching sporting events. In her later years, she enjoyed spending time on her computer. Above all, she loved being with her family, especially her grandchildren. They were her “pride and joy.” She will be sadly missed.
Surviving are her two daughters, Gayle Williams and Kim Peretti; her five grandchildren, Lauren Llewellyn and husband Justin, Matthew Williams and fiancee Aubrey Zeigler, Claire Marple and husband Donnie, Katelyn Peretti and Nicholas Peretti; four sisters-in-law, Mary Andrews, Doris Long, Beverly Long and Phyllis Norris and husband Edward and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., Cresaptown, on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home on Friday at 11 a.m.
Interment will be in Fort Ashby Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the WMHS Schwab Family Cancer Center, 12500 Willowbrook Road, Cumberland, MD 21502.
