KEYSER, W.Va. — Anna Virginia “Grannie Annie” Shumaker, 93, of Second Street, Keyser, W.Va., died Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, at the Heartland of Keyser Nursing Home.
Born on March 27, 1919, at Keyser, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late William and Myrtle (Barrick) Green. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Boyd E. Shumaker on Nov. 6, 1984; a son, Jarrett Boyd “Jerry” Shumaker; three brothers, Melvin, Raymond and Kenneth Green and two sisters, Elsie Anderson and Frances Brumage.
Mrs. Shumaker was formerly employed with 10 years of service as a cook at Keyser High School. She was a 1938 graduate of Keyser High School. She was a member of the Keyser Church of the Brethren, the Women's Auxiliary of the church and was named Mother of the Year. Virginia was always proud to say that she was a “West Virginia Hillbilly from Green Mountain.”
Surviving are four sons, Norman R. “Jake” Shumaker, of Keyser, James E. Shumaker and wife Kay, of New Creek, W.Va., Jeffrey L. Shumaker and wife Kelly, of Keyser and Jody L. Shumaker and wife Tab, of New Creek; a daughter-in-law, Susie Shumaker, of Burlington, W.Va.; 10 grandchildren, Missy Shumaker, Matthew Shumaker and wife Sharon, Teresa Elder and husband Chris, Lisa Braun and husband Mick, Lorre Burgess, Joel Shumaker and wife Michelle, Kody Shumaker, Jacob Shumaker, Jeremy Shumaker and Justin Shumaker and wife Vanessa and nine great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted in the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Joseph Eversole officiating.
Interment will be in the Queen's Point Cemetery, Keyser.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Mountain Hospice girls and Heartland of Keyser Nursing Home for their excellent care and compassion of Mrs. Shumaker.
