CUMBERLAND — Violet “Vi” Virginia Gorman, 87, of Cumberland, passed away Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012, at Golden Living Center.
Born Jan. 25, 1925, in Oldtown, Mrs. Gorman was the daughter of the late Joseph Hyder Shrout and Sadie Rosella (Myers) Shrout. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Dr. John T. "Gummy" Gorman Jr., DDS, Sept. 11, 2002; four brothers, Irvin, Carleton, Thurman, and Elwood Shrout; six sisters, Charlotte "Lottie" Twigg, Lucy "Irene" Robertson, Leafy Shrout, Pearl Ginevan, Emma “Emmy" Schaidt, and Mildred Hutchenson. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
A dental assistant and office manager for her husband, Dr. John T. “Gummy” Gorman Jr., DDS, Vi was a member of the Church of Saint Patrick.
She is survived by her sons, Jerry L. Davis and wife, Julie, Cumberland, and Coby G. Davis and wife, Joann, Kapolei, Hawaii. Vi is also survived by her grandchildren, Lance Davis and his partner, Billy Keating, Cumberland, Brandon Davis and wife, Julie, North Stonington, Conn., Krista Ryan and her friend, Zach Miller, Fremont, California, Tisha Presley and husband, Rob of Texas, Ryan Davis and friend, Kara Rayes, of Hawaii and David Williams and wife, Tracy of California; her great-grandchildren, Jaxon C. Davis, Mya Violet Davis, Chloe Presley, and Sienna Presley; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland, (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Monday, Oct. 29 2012 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Mountains Parish, Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church on Tuesday, Oct., 30, 2012 at 10 a.m.
Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Golden Living Center for the professionalism, wonderful care, and support given to Vi, as well as to Dr. Gupta’s professional and sensitive care.
