Bernard E. Beard Jr. [Lexington, Va.]

LEXINGTON, Va. — Bernard Eugene Beard Jr., of Lexington Va., passed away at his home on Friday, Feb. 17, 2012, surrounded by family.  

He was born on Aug. 30 1937, in Cumberland.  

He served in the Army and the Navy Reserves. Bernie worked as an engineer at RFK Stadium, Safeway Bakery Plant, the Ronald Regan Building and other commercial, residential and government buildings. He was active in the Boy Scouts for over 40 years, member of the Knights of Columbus, and a volunteer at the Rockbridge Area Relief Association Food Pantry.  

He is survived by his brother David; very special sister Joanne; his wife of 37 years, Joyce; nine children, Scott, Mary Anne, Tim, Lisa, Michael, Cathy, Christine, Bill and Charles; 21 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.  

He was preceded in death by his sons, Stephen, Jeff and Joe.  

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated in Saint Pat-rick’s Church in Lexington, Va.
