FROSTBURG — Mary Ellen Gormley, 90, formery of Washington, D.C., passed away Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012 at the Frostburg Village Assisted Living Center.
Born Jan. 6, 1922 in Washington, she was the daughter of the late James Nicholas Higgins and Mary Elizabeth (Nuggent) Higgins. She was preceded in death by her husband John Joseph Gormley Jr.; brothers, James Nicholas Higgins Jr. and Willliam Higgins. She was the last surviving member of her family.
Mary Ellen was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Silver Spring, and Our Lady of Sorrows in Owensville. She was also President of the Ladies Guild at the Lady of Sorrows, the College Park Lionettes, and a Docent at the Smithsonian Institute in BN Shadyside. She worked at Gormley-Wareham Associates.
She is survived by two sons, Thomas Gormley of Eagle River, Alaska and Patrick Gormley and wife, Tina of Frostburg; three grandchildren, Ellen Price and Timothy Gormley of Portland, Ore. and Andrea Gormley of Frostburg.
There will be a memorial service held at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 15661 Norbeck Blvd., Silver Spring, at a later date.
Inurnment will be in Arlington Cemetery.
