CUMBERLAND — Jacob “Jake” Phillip Pisarcik, 98, of Cumberland, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, at the Golden Living Center.
Born April 30, 1914, in Windber, Pa., he was the son of the late John and Sophia (Bielik) Pisarcik. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ellen (Pioli) Pisarcik; one grandson, Brian Pisarcik; one step daughter, Leona, of Cumberland; four sister and two brothers. Of his immediate family, he was the last survivor of seven siblings.
Jake served as a Sergeant in the US Army during World War II.
He was a Quality Control Inspector for Allegany Ballistics Laboratory. He was a member of Our Lady of the Mountains, where he served as an usher and Eucharist Minister for the Shrine of SS Peter and Paul. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus 586; the VFW Henry Hart Post 1411 and the Moose Lodge 271 Loyal Order. A student of the Nancy Lepley Dance Studio, he was a ballroom dancer and the only male with the “Never Too Late Girls.” He and his wife enjoyed dancing the waltz with them.
Surviving are his wife, Edna V. Pisarick, of DeHaven Road, Cumberland; his son, Dennis J. Pisarcik and wife Denise, of Pennsylvania and one grandson, Bradley Pisarcik, of Pennsylvania. He is also survived by a stepdaughter, Carole A. Rollins and husband Bill, of North Carolina; a stepson, Mark B. Hordeman, of Ocean City; three stepgrandchildren, Brian M. Rollins, of Florida, Marisa F. Rollins, of New York and Scott Fertig and wife Julia, of Kentucky; six great-grandchildren, Joshua, Jacob, Summer, Ronan, Raiden, and Sierra Fertig, of Kentucky and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A. 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland (www.scarpellifh.com) on Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. A Christian wake service will be held at 3:45 p.m. with the Knights of Columbus 586 participating.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, Nov. 5, 2012, at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Mountains Shrine at SS Peter and Paul with Father Bernard Finerty, O.F.M. Cap. as celebrant.
Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans Cemetery, Rocky Gap.
Military honors will be accorded by the Post 13 Combined Honor Guard.
Pallbearers will be Gary Guyer, Ted Higson, Fred Higson, Nick Seeders, Michael McDermott and Colvin Athey.
