FROSTBURG — Winifred “Winnie” M. Davis, 78, of Frostburg, died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012, at the Frostburg Village Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born Jan. 20, 1934, in Frostburg, to the late James R. Walsh and Vera E. Stevens, she preceded in death by her parents; a son, Scott “Eese” Bradley Davis and three brothers, James L., Robert and Gary Walsh.
Winnie was employed in Baltimore and Washington by the C&P Telephone Company, Frostburg Office of Potomac Edison as a Switchboard Operator; she was the owner and operator of Jewel Garden Dress Shop, the Davis Newstand and Greyhound Bus Agent, and the Depot Shops, all of Frostburg.
She was a member of Frostburg United Methodist Church served as Sunday School Teacher, the Farrady Post 24 American Legion Ladies Auxiliary as past President and present Executive Committee Member, the Frostburg Area Ambulance for 36 years where she served as past President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer and Member-at-Large, Ladies Elks 470 past President, Women of the Moose 348, and formerly served the City of Frostburg as Street and Finance Commissioner for six years.
Surviving are her husband of 55 years, William R. Davis; a son, William “Buzzy” R. Davis and wife Lisa, of Frostburg; one brother, Gerald “Bugs” Walsh and wife Rosella, of Oldtown and several nieces and nephews.
Friends and family will be received at the Durst Funeral Home P.A., 57 Frost Ave., Frostburg, on Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home on Friday, Sept. 21, 2012, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Jennifer Webber officiating. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service.
Winnie will be cremated in accordance with her wishes after the service.
An inurment will be held at Frostburg Memorial Park at a later date.
The Farrady Post 24 Ladies Auxiliary will hold a memorial service on Thursday, Sept. 20, at 7:30 p.m followed by the Frostburg Area Ambulance’s memorial service at 8 p.m.
