George Gaylon Buskey [Cumberland]

CUMBERLAND — George Gaylon Buskey, 86, of Cumberland, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010, at the Allegany County Nursing Home.

Born Feb. 15, 1924, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late George F. and Daisy (Stump) Buskey. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Nelson and Paul Buskey, and two sisters, Rita Artino and Bonnie Ratke.

Mr. Buskey worked as a pipefitter at the CSX Transportation Co. and retired in 1985. He was a 1941 graduate of Fort Hill High School and served in the Navy during World War II. George was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and American Legion Fort Cumberland Post 13. He was also a member of the V.F.W. and Henry Hart Post 1411. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Anne Buskey; eight nephews, John L. Ratke II and wife Sandra, Frank B. Ratke and wife Janet, George P. Ratke and friend Debbie Connelley, Gregory S. Ratke Sr. and wife Gina, Kevin M. Ratke, Scott Buskey, Michael Buskey and wife Anita, and David Artino; two nieces, Karen Ratke Jones and husband Bill, and Debbie Artino, and numerous great nephews and nieces.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, scarpellifuneralhomes.com on Tuesday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Christian Wake service will be conducted at the funeral home at 3:30 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Wednesday at 10 a.m. with Father Ty Hullinger as celebrant.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.

Military honors will be accorded by the Post 13 Veterans Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, the family graciously request to make contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
