WESTERNPORT — Helen Kathryn Shay, 85, formerly of Westernport, died Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010, at the Goodwill Mennonite Home in Grantsville.
Born on April 3, 1924, at Franklin, she was a daughter of the late William Henry and Janet Virginia (Dunn) Raines. She also was preceded in death by her husband, James Calvin Shay, on March 8, 1990, and a sister, Pearl Donnelly.
Mrs. Shay was retired as a bartender at Moran's in Westernport. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Piedmont, W.Va., and was also a member of Bethlehem Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, Westernport.
Surviving are two sons, Michael W. Shay and wife Janet, of Frostburg, and James R. Shay and wife Denise, of Mountain Lake Park; three daughters, Janet Jennings, of Baltimore, Judith Cox and husband Alan, of Kirby, W.Va., and Doris “Tootie” Maybury and husband James, of Keyser; one brother, William Raines, of Westernport; two sisters, Peggy Sirk, of Parkersburg, W.Va., and Joan Barnett, of Mineral Wells, W.Va.; 12 grandchildren, Eric Patterson, Daniel Jennings, Jennifer Cox, Jessica Lawson, Julie Landis, Jim Shay, Stephanie Shay, John Brodbeck, Joe Maybury, Josh Maybury, Sarah Maybury and John Maybury, and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation and services for the family will begin at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010, at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel.
Funeral services will immediately follow the visitation in the funeral home at 4 p.m.
Interment will be in the Restlawn Memorial Gardens, LaVale.
The family requests that memorial contributions be directed to either the Goodwill Mennonite Home, 891 Dorsey Hotel Road, Grantsville, MD 21536; the Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601-7633 or to a charity of the donor's choice.
