Retha May Whorton [Accident]

ACCIDENT — Retha May Whorton, 75, of Accident, died Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010, at Frostburg Village Nursing Home, Frostburg.

Born Dec. 2, 1934, in Accident, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (Lee) Groer.

Mrs. Whorton was a tax auditor for the State of Maryland. She had her B.S. in Management and M.S. in Management from Frostburg State University, graduating with honors. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, WELCA, BPW, AARP; Parkinson’s Support Group and volunteered with the Lutheran Braille Workers.

She is survived by her husband, Carl Edward Whorton; a son, Bryan Whorton, of Milford, N.H.; two daughters, Rhonda Whorton, of Cresaptown, and Stephany Reynard, of LaVale; a brother, Lawrence Groer, of Frostburg and five grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville, on Tuesday, Feb. 23, from 4 to 8 p.m. There will be no visitation on Wednesday.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010, at 11 a.m. in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Accident, with the Rev. Roland E. Nairn III and the Rev. Stephen F. Yelovich officiating. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the services.

Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy may be directed to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
