Edward Earnest Podelco [Cumberland]


CUMBERLAND — Edward Earnest Podelco, 75, died at his residence in Cumberland on Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2010.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Martha A. (Kenny) Podelco; his son, E. Grant Podelco, of Czech Republic; his daughter, Carol Levine and her husband Roy, of Ridgeley; his beloved grandson, Alex Trainor, of Ridgeley; and his older brother, George Podelco, who resides in Virginia.

Born in 1935 in Piedmont, W.Va., he was the son of the late Peter H. Podelco and Mary A. (Ostrowski) Podelco .

A graduate of Piedmont High School, he later earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from West Virginia University.

He has also served in the U.S. Army as a radio teletype operator for the Signal Corps from 1956-1960.

Mr. Podelco held positions as Engineer and Plant Manager for Jeanette Glass Co. and Carrier Corp, during the 70’s, and eventually opened his own small business. Later, he taught writing courses at Potomac State College as an adjunct faculty member. He enjoyed music and painting, and had shown several of his oil paintings at Western Maryland Train Station in 1987.

Family and friends will be received at Boal Funeral Home in Westernport on Monday, Feb. 22, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, Feb. 23, at 10 a.m. in St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Westernport, with Monsignor James Hannon and Father Bernard Finerty as celebrants.

A bereavement luncheon will follow.

Interment will be at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Westernport.
