DANVILLE, Va. — Matt Greene belted a 3-run homer in the bottom of the 12th inning to win the first game, and Daniel Heatwole went 4-for-4 in the nitecap as Frostburg State beat Old Westbury (N.Y.), 15-12 and 9-2, to sweep their weekend college baseball series.
In the opener, the Bobcats (5-2) led 12-9 through eight innings before Old Westbury (0-3) struck for three ninth-inning runs to force extra innings.
After three shutout innings of relief by winning pitcher Greg Beachy, Jeff Kroboth was hit by a pitch to lead off the FSU 12th, and advanced to third on a single by Heatwole. Greene followed with a home run over the left-center field fence to end it.
Timothy Sutcliffe doubled, singled and drove in six runs and Joe Garrity was 3-for-4 with a double, triple, four runs scored and three RBIs to lead the FSU offense.
Old Westbury lost despite pounding out 19 hits.
In the second game, Heatwole had three doubles, a single, three runs scored and three RBIs. Sutcliffe had a double and two more RBIs, and Kroboth tripled.
Freshman starter Jordan Santak, staked to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, got the win with five shutout innings.
The Bobcats will play Allegheny (Pa.) in a 3-game weekend series that starts Saturday, at 3 p.m., in Woodbridge, Va.
