Frederick tops Allegany with 7-run 8th, 10-5

— FREDERICK — Clinging to a one-run lead, Allegany College of Maryland couldn’t hold on as Frederick Community College scored seven runs in the bottom of the eighth for a 10-5 win Thursday afternoon.

The Cougars (13-2) took advantage of four walks and three hits, including two doubles, in the pivotal inning to defeat the Trojans.

Frederick jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first before Allegany scored two runs in each the third and fourth innings. They added a run in the top of the ninth.

Allegany outhit Frederick, 12-11, led by A.J. Robinson’s home run in the fourth inning. Ethan Newton had two hits, including a double, and scored twice. Matt Curtis had three RBIs and John Shaffer had two hits as did Robinson and Kasey Clinton.

Tyler Shover and Brett Moreland both had two hits and an RBI and Tim Leather and Brian Paulhus each drove in two runs off of two hits.

Allegany (4-2) hosts Finger Lakes (N.Y.) today for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
