— MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — A day after collecting its first win of the season Garrett was stopped by two separate teams on two separate fields Monday in Myrtle Beach.
The Lakers finished the afternoon with an extra-inning, 11-9 loss to Camden (N.J.), a game that saw the teams combine for eight runs in the final inning.
Camden took an 11-6 lead in the top of the eighth by using a two-run home run from Steve Trebelhorn, three doubles and a single.
The Lakers came right back in the bottom of the inning to load the bases with nobody out. Camden then made two errors in the field that allowed Garrett to get it to 11-9 with no outs before Tony Menzoni got two strikeouts and a fielder’s choice to end the game. Menzoni would add three hits at the plate.
For Garrett, Clint Whitman had double and scored the tying run in the bottom of the seventh. Will Fisher hit a double and a single, and Joe Consolo had two hits and a RBI on a sacrifice fly.
The Lakers began the day by being shut out by Mercer (N.J.) 10-0. Anthony Berderesse and Russ Stupienski allowed the Lakers just four hits, with only one going for extra bases.
Joe Loene hit a double and a single, and Matt Hill two singles to lead Mercer. Will Fisher tripled for Garrett.
The Lakers slip to 1-3 overall and are 1-2 at Myrtle Beach after beating the County College of Morris (N.J.) 15-3 on Sunday.
Garrett will continue play at the beach with a single game today at 3 p.m., against Iowa Central.
