FROSTBURG — Adria Graham scored two goals and Stephanie Fazenbaker scored one and assisted on another to lead Frostburg State over Grove City, 4-1, in the first round of the ECAC South Region tournament Wednesday night at Bobcat Stadium.
The Bobcats broke a 1-1 halftime tie with three goals in the second half.
The teams traded goals early in the first half, with Frostburg sophomore forward Graham opening the scoring in the fifth minute after a perfect lead pass from freshman Fazenbaker as she netted her 15th goal of the season. Grove City fought back and tied it in the 12th minute on a Sam Weber goal set up by a crossing feed from Emily Hurley.
Grove City (10-8-2) hung tough through the first 45 minutes with the top-seeded Bobcats.
In the second half, Graham, who earlier Wednesday was named the 2011 Capital Athletic Conference Player of the Year, made a fine move to lose a Grove City defender and floated a perfectly placed shot into the upper left corner to put the Bobcats ahead, 2-1, in the 47th minute.
Two minutes later, senior Olivia Winant ripped a shot off the crossbar from the left side that bounced perfectly to Fazenbaker. The freshman one-touched it home to provide Frostburg (15-2-2) with some insurance.
Senior Dorie Gedridge capped the scoring on a long blast in the 80th minute.
The Bobcats outshot Grove City, 24-7, and 15-3 in the second half. Senior Michelle Buckmaster made three saves.
Frostburg will host the semifinals and championship of the ECAC South Region this weekend. The Bobcats will play Penn State-Altoona at noon Saturday with the other semifinal to follow at 2:30 p.m. The championship will be Sunday at noon.
