Miners’ Andresson takes third

 

PARKTON — Mountain Ridge’s Hlynur Andresson finished third overall and led three Miners among the top 13 in the Class 1A high school cross country state championships Saturday at Hereford.
Andresson toured the hilly, challenging Hereford course in 17:44.6, just 1.2 seconds behind the runner-up and nearly 10 seconds ahead of the fourth-place finisher.
In the girls meet, the top area finisher was Mountain Ridge’s Alexis DeVault, who was fourth in 20:57.6.
Bohemia Manor won the boys and girls team titles.
Bohemia Manor won the boys meet with 65 points, followed by North Carroll with 109, Southern with 110, Pikesville with 123 and Mountain Ridge with 131 among 13 teams participating.
Bohemia Manor’s Ryan Pfarr was the individual state champ, winning with a time of 17:14.8. Smithsburg’s Luke Daigneault (17:44.6) and Andresson rounded out the top three.
Mountain Ridge’s Rhett Poland (18:17.7) was 11th and Brandon Redmond (18:33.8) placed 13th. There were 97 finishers in the boys race.
Zac Thomas finished 18th (18:49.0) and Evan Rodeheaver 20th (18:59.0) to lead Southern to its third-place team finish. Jasper Tasker was 21st (19:00.3) and Wyatt McBee 28th (19:13.6).
Fort Hill’s Jaredun Twigg was 26th (19:11.3).
Bohemia Manor won the girls meet with 53 points. Boonsboro was second with 69, followed by Mountain Ridge with 99, Perryville with 107 and Southern with 110. There were 10 girls teams in the meet.
The individual champion was Perryville’s Jordan Dodson in 19:55.
DeVault was fourth in 20:57.6, and Southern Garrett’s Karisa Weissgerber was 11th in 21:53.6.
Mountain Ridge’s Madison Offstein (22:41.0) was 16th and Madison Lawrence (22:46.7) 19th. Southern’s Holly Weissgerber (22:43) was 17th, Nicole Walch (23:16.0) 25th and Lauren Keefer (23:30.5) 28th.
Fort Hill’s Chelsea Reikie finished 22nd in 22.51.2.
