Queen City Football Camp July 19-21
CUMBERLAND — Fort Hill Football will host its 14th annual Queen City Football Camp July 19-21 for grades 6-8. The event will be held each night from 6 to 8 p.m. at Greenway Avenue Stadium.
Special guest speakers will be Mike O'Kelly on Monday, July 19; Sam Walker, Tuesday, July 20; and Mark Manges, Wednesday, July 21 at 7 p.m. On the final night night of the camp a Kick, Punt and Pass contest will take place for paid participants, who will be awarded with T-shirts. All participants will receive T-shirts and work on building their skills in football fundamentals. The cost of the camp is $25. For information, call Farrah Davies at 301-697-1166.
BW Athletic Association meets Thursday
CUMBERLAND — The Bishop Walsh Athletic Association will hold its monthly meeting Thursday, July 15 in the BW cafeteria. Coaches and team mothers are encouraged to attend but the meeting is open to the public. Cash Bash tickets are due at this meeting. BW volleyball team meets today
ROCKY GAP — The Bishop Walsh volleyball team will meet today, 4:30 p.m., at Rocky Gap State Park. Players must have their Cash Bash tickets at this meeting before conditioning begins. For information, contact head coach Courtney Tipton at 301-697-8220.
Bi-State baseball board meets today
WILEY FORD, W.W.Va. — The Bi-State baseball board will meet Wednesday, July 14, 8 p.m., at the Wiley Ford field. The purpose of this meeting will be to discuss the handling of expenses for the 9-10 year-old tournament team to travel to the West Virginia state tournament in Beckley.
The team has put on a fund-raising campaign in the past two weeks that has been supported by local businesses and people of the area and the board wishes to inform the public how the money is to be spent for the team.
All-night softball tourney Aug. 7
CUMBERLAND — There will be an all-night softball tournament for Class D and E teams or under Saturday, Aug. 7, at the Mason Sports Complex. Rice, Siemann win FSU golf match
FROSTBURG — Wayne Rice and Mary Siemann shot a combined score of 163 to win the Frostburg State University Golf League match played Monday at Maplehurst Country Club.
Placing second were Kurt Lemmert and Bob Moore (170) with Bernie Wynder and Tony Zaloga third (171). Pin winners were Mary Siemann (No. 7), Lemmert (10), and Rice (15). Hitting longest drives were Zaloga (1, 6, and 8), Art Siemann (5 and 12), and Moore (14). Gary Gill made the best approach shot on No. 3 (eagle), Mary Siemann on 4, Art Siemann on 11, Moore on 13, and Zaloga on 16. Wynder made the longest putt on 9 and Art Siemann on 8. The next match is scheduled for Monday at 3:30 p.m.
Seniors play Tuesdays at Oakland
OAKLAND — The team of Tom Broadwater, Bill Kelley, Gary Dixon and, John Hetrick had a 109 to finish first in the Charlie’s Angels men’s seniors play Tuesday at Oakland Golf Club. The format was two best-ball, net of four. The second-place team was Tom Gowans, Red Guthrie, Lowell Echelberger and Tom Mirras at 110, followed by Lee Maes, Frank Damon, Frenchie Grimm and Ed Frantz, also at 110.
Reds hold pool party/registration
CUMBERLAND — The pee-wee Reds football team will hold a pool party Saturday, July 17, 3 to 5 p.m., at the Constitution Park pool deck. The party is for boys and girls already registered for the 2010 football/cheerleading season. If not already registered, parents can register their children at the party.
Valley View Ladies hold Tuesday play
MOOREFIELD, W.Va. — The Valley View Ladies played the x-out one hole on front and back format Tuesday with Marcia Fisher shooting a 73 to finish first. Donna Riggleman placed second with 77 and Nita Lash was third at 78. Linda Michael had low putts.
Procida repeats as Jewish All-American
LOS ANGELES, CALI. —Former Frostburg State senior defender Davia Procida has been tabbed as a Jewish Sports Review 2010 All-America College Women's Lacrosse First Team selection for the second-straight year.
Procida is one of 11 first-team selections and she joins four other players from the state of Maryland on the first team. The All-American college division consists of players from both the NCAA Division II and III levels.
Procida helped the Bobcats to a 9-8 record and an appearance in the 2010 ECAC Tournament. It was the squad's first postseason appearance since 2001 and the 13th time in the program's 45-year history that the team finished with nine or more wins.
She started all 16 games and finished second on the team in both groundballs (65) and caused turnovers (32). She scored her lone goal in FSU's 19-6 win over Division II Shepherd in late April. Procida started in every game she played (62) and totaled 189 groundballs, 82 caused turnovers and 10 goals over her four-year career.
Tennis tourney being played in Keyser
KEYSER, W.Va. — E&S Fabrics and George’s Tune-up are sponsoring a tennis tournament for area players on Friday, July 23 through Sunday, July 25 at the South End tennis courts in Keyser.
Nine divisions of play are offered. Singles divisions are Boys 19 and under, Girls 19 and under, Men’s, Women’s, and Men’s and Women’s Senior (over 50). Doubles divisions are Men’s, Women’s and Mixed.
Players will follow USTA rules. Format for play will be best of three sets, with a 12 point tie-breaker at six games all. Cost is $10 for singles and $20 per doubles team. Balls will be provided for tournament play.
Applications may be picked up at Hill-Side Animal in Frostburg, Dunham’s in Lavale, Dollar, and E&S Fabrics in Keyser.
Applications may also be picked up at the tennis courts at Constitution Park, Fort Hill High School, Alleghany College of Maryland, Petersburg’s Tennis Courts, and Wampacoma Tennis Courts in Romney. Players may also sign up by calling Don Kingery at 304-813-7004. Deadline for entries is noon on Wednesday, July 21.
