Potomac Park —
POTOMAC PARK — The Romney Rippers squandered an early 5-run lead, but jumped back ahead in the fifth inning and got solid pitching over the final three innings to beat Lakeview Auto 7-6 at Holler Field and take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three Hot Stove American League Championship Series.
The Rippers took a 3-0 lead in its very first at bats, and led 6-1 following two innings. Lakeview then rallied with two runs in the third and tied everything by scoring three times in the top of the fourth. Matt Maiers scored the winning run in the fifth inning after walking and eventually scoring on a passed ball.
Josh Crawford collected two singles, winning pitcher Garrett Crawford doubled and Maiers finished with an RBI single.
Lakeview got a pair of singles from Beck Sherrod and Cody Rodeheaver, and a double from Derek Rodeheaver.
Though he finished with just three strikeouts, Crawford settled down over the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to keep Lakeview from threatening the lead.
Romney (22-3) has a chance to secure the American League pennant when the teams meet for Game Two on Wednesday, 5:30, at Hamilton Field.
