FROSTBURG — The Frostburg State men’s soccer team has earned the fourth seed in the upcoming 2009 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Tournament. The Bobcats will host No. 5 seed La Roche in the first round at Bobcat Stadium this Saturday at 6:30 pm.
The Bobcats enter this year’s tournament with a 11-6-1 overall record and a 7-3 AMCC mark. FSU has been on a terror of late, winning seven-straight games, all AMCC contests, to close out the regular season.
With the No. 4 seed, the Bobcats will host No. 5 La Roche (8-9-1, 6-4) in the opening round. The Redhawks enter the tournament having lost four of their last five contests in including a 2-1 loss to the Bobcats on Oct. 20.
The two teams last met in the AMCC Tournament opening round in 2007 with Frostburg State winning 1-0. The Bobcats will also look to advance to the AMCC Tournament semifinals for the eighth-straight season.
The winner fo the FSU/LAR matchup will advance to the tournament semifinals and travel to top seed Medaille on Wednesday, Nov. 4.
In the other opening round games, No. 7 Pitt-Bradford (4-13, 3-7) travels to No. 2 Penn State Behrend (13-4-2, 8-1-1) and No. 6 Pitt-Greensburg (4-13-1, 3-6-1) travels to No. 3 Penn State Altoona (12-5-1, 8-2). Both games are on Saturday (Oct. 31) at 2:30 pm. The winners of each of those opening round games will face one another in the tournament semifinals Wednesday.
