Oates sets high school record at Valley View

MOOREFIELD, W.Va. — Petersburg’s Cameron Oates set a high school course record at the Valley View Country Club, and Northern pulled out a team victory in a five-team Tuesday afternoon match that had the top four teams separated by just four strokes.

Oates shot a 4-under par 32 to lead the way and set the high school record. Seth Thompson added a 38 for the Vikings.

Austin Doerr shot a solid 36 to lead Northern to the team victory with a score of 167. Southern, led by Brady Donaldson’s 38, was next with 168, followed by Petersburg at 169 and Moorefield with 170. Aaron Freeman shot a 39 and Seth Mongold had a 40 for the Yellow Jackets.

Kolby Foltz had a 41 to lead East Hardy, which was fifth with a 187.

Moorefield plays Tucker, East Hardy and Petersburg on Wednesday at Canaan Valley.



Keyser wins quad

KEYSER, W.Va. — A balanced attack that featured four golfers scoring 43 or better lifted Keyser to victory in a four-team match at Polish Pines.

Nick Wilson led the way for the Golden Tornado by shooting a 38. Charlie Abernathy shot a 39, Evan Coleman had a 40 and Brad Ryan a 43.

Keyser won the match with a team score of 160. Tucker County ended up 13 strokes behind for second, and Frankfort was third at 186. Fort Hill finished fourth with a score of 186.

Shane Walker led the Sentinels with a 39, and Zach Evans had the low score for Tucker with a 41. Austin Cook and Dusty Myers led Frankfort with 43s.

On Monday, Abernathy had a 44 and Wilson a 46 when Keyser finished third in a three-team match with Jefferson and Berkeley Springs. The Cougars won the day with a 168 score, and the Indians were second at 179. Keyser wound up at 189.

The Tornado will host Mountain Ridge and Frankfort on Monday.
