MOOREFIELD, W.Va. — Moorefield’s Brandon Barr had the shot of the day, and it helped lift Moorefield to a one-stroke victory over Petersburg in high school golf action Thursday at the Valley View Country Club.
Barr, a sophomore, used a 9-iron to ace the 140-yard No. 13, and Moorefield went on to edge Petersburg 182-183. The ace was witnessed by Jordan Maddy of Moorefield and Justin Mullenax and Dylan Dayton of Petersburg.
Petersburg’s Cameron Oates, Seth Thompson and Will George, and Moorefield’s Seth Mongold finished tied for low medalist honors with 43s. Aaron Freeman had a 44 for Moorefield.
Petersburg, Moorefield, East Hardy and Keyser will play Wednesday at Polish Pines in Keyser.
Northern wins tri-match
FLINTSTONE — Austin Doerr shot a match-low 38 to lead Northern to victory over Mountain Ridge and Fort Hill
Northern won with a team score of 189. Mountain Ridge had a 208 and Fort Hill a 228. Allegany’s Alex Wedaski competed as an individual, and scored a 52.
Fort Hill will play Southern at the Oakland Golf Club on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, Shane Walker led all golfers with a 41 to lead Fort Hill past Frankfort, 194-199. Dusty Myers led the Falcons with a 46.
